SIDEO

Project

The SIDEO project aims to improve the estimation of accidental shark catches in the French purse seine tuna fisheries of the Indian Ocean using electronic observation (EO).

This method involves the deployment of onboard cameras to actively monitor shark catches and ensure compliance with proper release practices.

Currently, EO technology is in use on select vessels; however, it grapples with constraints such as blind spots and image quality issues, that hinder comprehensive observation of rare species like sharks.
